Relax, refresh, and ease your strife
For here is water, here is life.
However fast the world may go,
Rest here and watch the waters flow:
Fountain, stream, river, sea,
The water flows eternally.

Fountain detail

Originally opened on October 17th 1867, the Dudley Fountain in the market place was recently restored. For the first time in over 50 years, water is now flowing there again.

As part of the restoration, John was commissioned to write a verse to be inlaid around the base of the fountain and which he also read to the crowd at the official re-opening ceremony on November 6th 2015. He also led the countdown to the switch-on and, after a short pause for dramatic effect, the waters began to flow again.

John would like to thank Dudley Council and the council artist Steve Field for the honour of being allowed a very small part in the history of the town of Dudley.
